5 Car Tech Trends of CES 2013

Ford and GM both announced they'd be opening their cars to the development community. The companies are offering supplier development kits, application programming interfaces, testing and review resources, and revenue-sharing programs for apps that make it to release. The idea is to leverage the creative community to dream up features for cars that manufactures wouldn't even think about.

Safety is a major concern for the growth of car connectivity (nobody wants drivers to spend too much time looking away from the road), so don't expect to play Angry Birds on your navigation screen. But you will see clever apps to extend the capabilities of your car?from Ford right now, and from GM in the near future.
