DENVER ? Colorado is among the first states asking for federal permission to overhaul how it measures student achievement under the federal No Child Left Behind law.
Education Commissioner Robert Hammond says the waiver application would be sent by the end of business Monday.
Colorado officials say they want the waiver so the state can use its own accountability system to meet many of the federal requirements instead of having both a state and federal system to rate schools and districts. Hammond says a single system will be less confusing.
Education Secretary Arne Duncan offered the waivers as Congress continues to debate how to overhaul the law, which passed in 2002 and has been due for a rewrite since 2007.
